Pudina Rice

This is a very simple, easy, filling and flavorful rice recipe. I have abundant mint growing in my small garden, so I used freshly plucked mint leaves to prepare this rice.

So let’s start with following this simple recipe.

Pudina Rice

Prep time            : 5 minutes
Cooking time     : 15 minutes

1 Cup basmati rice
1 Small onion
2 Green chilies
1 Bay leaf
1 Tablespoon ghee
2 Cups water
Salt to taste

For the paste:

1 Cup fresh pudina/mint leaves
1/2 Inch ginger
2-3 Garlic cloves
2 Green chilies
1/4 Teaspoon fennel seeds
2 Cloves
1 Cardamom
1 Inch piece cinnamon


  • Wash and soak basmati rice for 15 minutes. Drain the water completely and keep it aside.
  • Slice onion and slit green chilies. keep it aside.
  • Grind pudina/ mint leaves, green chilies, ginger, garlic, fennel seeds, cloves, cardamom and cinnamon to a fine paste.


  • Heat ghee in a pan, add bay leaf, onion, green chilies and salt. Sauté till they turn transparent.
  • Add in the ground paste and sauté till oil separates.
  • Next, add water and bring it to a boil.
  • Then add in the basmati rice and cook until the rice is perfectly done.

Serve hot with any raita.
