Tawa paneer as the name suggests is traditionally on a tawa (iron skillet), but you can prepare this equally well in a frying pan. You can enjoy this dish with naan, roti, and phulkas. You can also use this as a filling for kaati rolls (one of my favorite ways to savor this dish).

Ingredients for gravy:
1 Large chopped onion
1 Tablespoon finely chopped ginger and garlic
2-3 Chopped Green chillies
0.5 Cup tomato puree
0.5 Teaspoon cumin seeds
0.5 Teaspoon turmeric powder
0.5 Teaspoon garam masala powder
2 Tablespoon oil
Salt to taste
300 Gms cottage cheese (Paneer)
2 Teaspoon yogurt
Pinch of turmeric powder
1 Teaspoon chilli powder
0.5 Teaspoon chat masala
1 Teaspoon kasuri methi
Salt to taste
Marinate: In a bowl add in yogurt, salt, chat masala, kasuri methi, red chili powder, pinch of turmeric powder and cilantro. Mix everything together and add paneer cubes and coat well. Keep aside and let it marinate for 30 – 60 minutes.
- Now, heat oil in a pan and splutter cumin seeds. Add chopped onions, chopped ginger and garlic, finely chopped green chilies, turmeric powder and salt, sauté it till golden brown.
- Add in the tomato puree and stir well. Pour some water if needed. Season with garam masala and cook for a few minutes and set aside.
- Now for the tawa paneer, in a flat pan, heat oil on a medium flame and place the paneer cubes .Cook until golden brown from all sides.
- Add paneer cubes back to the gravy and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
Garnish with cilantro and serve hot.
